FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Earthfest: Informing and Inspiring Students

Syracuse, N.Y., April 14, 2014 – With the lack of coverage concerning the problems that threaten life on our planet, many do not know what to do. But just because it is not in front of your face does not mean that these issues are not legitimate. The lack of talk surrounding what is going on in our world is an issue in itself. That is where the Students of Sustainability come in.
Earthfest is a three-day event of peace, love and awareness focused on educating members of the Syracuse University community about serious and time-sensitive environmental issues. Our basics, such as air and water, are being threatened. All things we do are interrelated and affect us all. The battle against climate change is not over. It is time for us to tune in and take action, and it starts with the individual. Earthfest is where the education and empowerment begins.

April 17:
§  Come see renewable energy in action via a bike powered phone charge, taking place on the quad. These bikes exemplify how easy and accessible renewable energy can be; solutions that utilize this energy are applicable. While your phone is charging, you are welcome to ride another bike around campus.
§  During this demo, there will be other fun activities such as face painting and Frisbee. Join us for some fun in the great outdoors. We have the power to be the energy of the future if we apply ourselves accordingly.
 April 21:
§  At 6:30 PM in the Herg, come see a screening of Years of Living Dangerously, a vivid depiction of deforestation. This Showtime documentary series features a star-studded cast, with executive producer James Cameron. This episode follows Matt Damon and Harrison Ford as they travel to Indonesia to investigate the palm oil industry, and Arnold Schwarzenegger as he joins a team of wildfire firefighters.
§  Stay after to hear what you can do to make a difference and what products to stay away from.
April 22:
§  Celebrate Earth Day with Students of Sustainability. Litter is more serious than it seems. Almost 80% of littered trash ends up in the ocean and affects the ecosystems. Do your part and help us clean up the park.
§  Throwing trash away is only part of the fight to save our planet. Have you ever wondered where your garbage goes once you throw it away? Questions such as these can be answered by the students of sustainability.
§  #TRUfactz Table in Schine – SOS members will be selling Canary Project posters, get a chance to be featured on our instagram.
April 23:

o   Check out the unveiling of an eco friendly mural.

It is obvious that our Earth is dying. It needs your help to survive. We need to create a conscious community and inspire people to change. Once you know what is going on around you, what will you do?
